Three tales discussion assignment help
The journey into and out of the woods is a popular one in fairy tales so let’s start with an examination of the psychological symbolism here – what other tales contain this journey and what do you think these archetypal journeys represent?
Into and Out of the Woods: examples and explanation
As stated elsewhere, into and out of the woods is a popular journey motif and generally, the movement in and out is one from civilization into the wilderness and then a return. Generally, it is a psychological journey as well and the central character (s) confront their deepest fears. For example. Hansel and Gretel journey into the woods after the cruel stepmother decides there is not enough food for them all – and in the woods, they confront her mirror character, the witch who wishes to devour them . . . they come out of the woods, stronger and witches banished both in and out. So let’s see what examples you can provide of fairy tales, narratives etc in which the characters experience the same journey and be sure to explain what fears they confront!
